Ethan Okwuosa '21, Katie Welage '21, Kamila Zygadlo '19 win events in Cats opener

While the CA Cats fell to Suffield Academy and Westminster, there were plenty of bright spots for the team’s first competition. 15 athletes qualified for the New England Championships, with 6 of these being brand new to the sport.
The score for the boys meet was: Cheshire Academy 31, Suffield Academy 74, Westminster 66. The top performers for the boys were Ethan Okwuosa ’21, Adam Cohen ’19, and Jack Roberge ’20. Roberge won the javelin with a throw of 137’9”. Cohen took fourth in shot put at 36’5” and took second in the disc with a throw of 110’9”. Okwuosa had himself a day, winning the triple jump at 42’11”, the long jump at 21’1”, and taking second in the high jump at 5’10”.
The score for the girls meet was Cheshire Academy 50, Suffield Academy 54, Westminster 65. The top performers for the girls were Maddie Silano ’21, Annsley Martin ’20, Kamila Zygadlo ’19, and Katie Welage ’21. Silano won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:11.93. Martin took first in the pole vault with a jump of 7’0”. Zygadlo took third in the javelin at 51’10” and won the discus at 82’7”. Welage found herself winning the 100 meter dash at 14.01s, taking third in the triple jump at 26’7.5”, and fourth in the long jump at 12’8”.
Overall, it was a great day for our athletes to showcase their talents, and we look forward to our first home meet on Saturday, 4/13, vs. Wilbraham and Monson Academy, Millbrook School, and Green Farms Academy at 3:00PM.
